About Ted

Theodore ("Ted") Owen Brooke, born 1943, Atlanta, Fulton Co., GA. He graduated from Tucker (DeKalb Co., GA) High School in 1961 and attended Georgia Tech. He retired from AT&T in 1996 and has been engaged in genealogical and heritage pursuits since then. He was married in 1968 and has two children: Robert, born 1970 and Ashley, born 1974 and one grandson, Carter Baughman.

Ted has been a member of the Georgia Genealogical Society since 1976, having served as Treasurer and Vice President and has been a member and officer in the East Georgia Genealogical Society. He has been a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans since 1970, is a charter member and past Commander of the Col. Hiram Parks Bell Camp #1642 in Cumming, Forsyth County, past Commander of the Second Brigade and is presently Lieutenant Commander of the Georgia Division.

Ted is the author or co-author of nineteen books, including the latest, Lumpkin County, Georgia Cemeteries, published in 2005 and Cumming Historic Cemetery, in 2006.

He was listed in both editions of Who's Who in Genealogy & Heraldry, Volume 1 (1981) and in Volume 2 (1990).

He is presently the Director of the Col. Hiram Parks Bell Southern History and Genealogical Research Center in Cumming, GA. He is currently publishing Georgia Stray Wills Before 1900, Georgia Will Index 1861-1900, and Georgia Will Index 1733-1860 (revised edition). In addition to heritage and genealogy, his hobbies include running and collecting antique bottles and postcards.
